In Art Design I have chosen to create a clothing brand for tall people. This is cause I myself am Tall and find it hard to find designer clothing that fits me well.
I have created the brand “Timothy Carter” to give tall people a fashion choice. High fashion clothes usually only go up to XL and their measurements move wider rather than longer. Timothy Carter goes beyond that. Timothy Carter makes clothes from XL-XXXL where we also focus on length rather than width. Timothy Carters logo is a giraffe, the giraffe represents tall individuals place in society. The giraffe eats from the top of the tree while other animals eat from the bottom. Our story changes the normal narrative and shows tall people as being higher up in society; from our view we have the upper handIn my work I want to focus on using artists such as Alexandro Michelle, Barbara Kruger, Bansky & William Wegman to help inspire my work. There artworks are all unique and out of the ordinary, this works well with what my brand is as tall people aren't normal. They stick out like a sore thumb, which these artists work do as well.
I would like to focus of William Wegman and Barbara Kruger mainly as I find there work fascinating. Both there works are simple but express a lot about society at the same time.
Although William Wegman usually focuses on dog heads on human body’s, I would use different types of animals such as a Giraffe obviously and even other types of animals. With Barba Kruger her style will be the way I would be able to make statements. The most frequent statements used in my work usually are “Who the fuck is Timothy Carter”, “ For tall people” and אמונה but its flipped upside down. This fits well with Kruger's work as her work isn't censored and makes bold statements.
My work compared to William Wegman is close in identity. With my work I'm attempting to make a statement on the royal family. By placing the animal head on the queen I'm trying to show how no matter how high up the ladder you are in society we are all animals who will do anything for money, power and fame. I feel like William Wegman is trying to make the same statement by saying that we are just as valuable as anyone as low in society as dogs. Both are works are also quite playful and are not taking anything very serious.
This is one of first artworks. Although it has no resemblance to Barbra Kruger it does take inspiration from William Wegman
Artist: Shepard Fairey
Date of creation of artwork: 2008 United States Of America Presidential Election
Type of Artwork: Design
Bio:
In the 2008 Presidential Election Shepard Fairey created the iconic poster of Barack Obama. On this iconic poster are written the words “Hope”. This is bold and nearly impossible to miss. It’s there to support Obama’s Promise of Equality to African Americans and other cultures and ethnicity living in America, showing them that there is still “Hope” for them to be treated equally and fairy.
Shepard created the design and printed it in one day. He originally printed around 290 which he sold of the street immediately. From there it then was distributed digitally and physically. Due to the popularity of the image Shepard independently but with the legal approval of Obama’s representation the poster was advertised and grew in popularity becoming one of the most recognized and well known symbolises of Obama’s campaign.
Media:
Shepard usually builds and creates his artworks with spray paint. To get the effect given in pieces like “Hope” using cardboards cutouts which he then carves into pieces kind of like a puzzle. He then spray paints around the cardboard. This is how he gets pierces colours in his works. After he has spray painted he sometimes goes over his work with stencils and charcoal just to make the work pop out more with shadows and outlines.
Artist: Banksy
Date of creation of artwork : sometime in 2002 (unknown)
Bio :
In 2002 Banksy spray painted one of the most iconic and most valuable artworks ever. In this
piece it displays a girl losing a balloon in the wind. This is to represent hope. The piece definitely took inspiration from the red girl in schindler's list. The piece was done overnight on the waterloo bridge. It was done overnight so banksy could stay anonymous.
Media :
The painting is done using a stencil on concrete. Banksy used stencil to give off what looks like a very realistic effect. The way the stencil was used makes the girl look kinda getting sunlight shone onto her. This just gives off a really gritty vibe to the picture and reminds me of industrial stuff.
I choose to do a clothing brand as clothing is something I am passionate about. I choose a giraffe as my logo as giraffes are also very tall and that's the target audience I was going for. I was quickly inspired by brands such a supreme and Gucci which I implemented into my designs.
These are especially noticeable in my posters as have the Supreme box famously used and created by Barbra Kruger. I also have loads of implementations inspired by Gucci clothing and advertisement.
In my clothing I made sure to make basketball the almost cryptic theme. I did this by repeating the phrase “Who the f*ck is Timothy Carter” and אמונה which is usually flipped upside down to keep the cryptic feel. It means faith with goes back to my christian roots. It is in Hebrew which is the original language of the bible.
With my clothing tags at first I was going to do a real complicated tag. However I tried cutting this out in real life and came to the conclusion something more simple would be way easier and better. That's why my last design is a giraffe as the stand out but aren't overly complicated.
My app and website are both very simple. I didn't want to go overboard with them as the sites I took inspiration from ( Bape, Supreme & Gucci ) all were very simple and easy to use. I tried to replicate this with both my website and my app and both came out looking pretty cool.
My Board represents the themes that I wanted immensely and in my opinion holds some of my best work.
Here is the final product.
